Anoai Me Ke Aloha, The Makanalani Notecard Set

In an era of instant DMs and texts, there is something profoundly intentional about sitting down to write a thoughtful note in a card. Handwritten messages are a gift in itself—a tangible piece of your heart sent across miles.

Our notecard set was designed to add a special touch to these moments. Featuring five of our signature prints that you’ve come to love on our apparel and accessories, these cards allow you to carry the vibrant beauty of Hawaii into every message you send.

Did you know that in the 19th century, Hawaii was one of the most literate nations on Earth? King Kamehameha III famously said, "He aupuni palapala ko‘u"—"Mine is a kingdom of literacy." The transformation happened between 1820- 1834. Writing letters became a vital way for families across the islands to share news, love, and mana'o (thoughts). When you choose to write a note instead of sending a text, you are participating in a long-standing Hawaiian tradition of honoring relationships through the written word.

Our notecard set is versatile for thank you’s, gifts, birthdays, special occasions, and a quick note to let that special someone know that you’re thinking of them. Any recipient will feel special when they open their envelope and see the brightly printed card.

Not sure about you, but when I sit down to write a card or letter, I like to set the tone. The perfect pen, a lovely Pikake Jasmine scented candle to set the writing mood, a perfect cup of tea (especially in love with Miraculous Mimaki from Big Island Coffee Roasters) and some music. These small touches create the perfect ambience for my writing to take me away, if only for a moment to let hoaloha or ‘ohana that I’m thinking of them.

"Wish you were here..." is more than a sentiment, it’s a desire to capture a special moment with those we cherish. With that, I’d like to close this me ke aloha pumehana.
